Australia – a hotbed of creative inspiration and ability – is home to more of my favorite artists than I can count on two hands. One of those producers steadily climbing that list is Elbow, and this isn’t the first time we’ve had the pleasure of featuring something from him. It’s been a real treat to watch this accomplished audio architect push his craft – the latest of which is his highly anticipated Shaid EP. Due to be dropping August 29th, on Digital Whomp Records, “Shaid” features 5 mind altering tracks and is some of Elbow’s best work to date.

Case in point is this flavorful premiere, and our favorite tune off the release, “Couyl“. This bouncing glitch hop gem immediately captures one’s attention. As it builds it seems to radiate purpose and intent combining whompy bass grooves with funky percussion and futuristic sound design. Couyl is digitally drenched but with an organic undertone to it; like earth under foot. In fact the whole vibe of the track reminds me of the ancient aboriginal rite of passage “Walkabout” with its galloping bass line and spiritual sounding horns. But it’s also fun and an absolute dance floor banger. Lovers of music like Opiuo and just good old funky glitchness should dig this EP. Stay tuned or grab the pre order HERE!!!
